02 — Exclusive to OCR
International College Athlete Program
ICAP is our in-house alternative to the traditional varsity route — and we are the only agency in the United States that offers this as an exclusive client pathway.
The Problem with Traditional Recruitment
Athletes are placed, arrive on campus, and from that point the agency's involvement ends. The player is on their own in a new country, new academic system, and a competitive team environment.
The ICAP Difference
We run the team. We manage the environment. Our athletes train at a high level year-round within a structure we control — with full academic integration and the freedom to move into varsity at any time, without losing eligibility.
🏟
High-Level Semi-Professional Environment
ICAP clubs operate at a genuine competitive level on partner university campuses — not recreational sport. Athletes train and compete year-round in a structured, coached environment that maintains and develops their ability.
🔄
Eligibility Preserved — Always
ICAP is structured so that athletes retain full eligibility to transfer into the traditional NCAA, NAIA, or NJCAA varsity system at any point. It's a pathway, not a dead end — athletes can move when the time and opportunity is right.
🎓
Full Academic Integration
ICAP athletes are enrolled as full students at the partner institution — accessing the same academic programmes, campus resources, and degrees as any other student, while competing at the level their ability demands.

✕
Families pay large upfront consulting fees before knowing which college, which state, or what scholarship they'll receive.

If your club loves the idea but can't absorb the cost right now, there's another way. We help you put it to the parents — a simple vote, a one-time contribution, and the partnership is funded collectively. The club still pays us directly. The parents simply cover it together.
01
Club Sends the Vote
The club shares a simple poll with parents — which plan they want, what the per-family cost works out to, and a yes/no commitment. We prepare all the messaging and materials for you.
02
If Enough Say Yes
Once the votes are in, each committing family makes a single one-time payment directly to the club. No recurring charges, no subscriptions. The full plan cost is covered upfront by the group.
03
Club Activates the Partnership
The club uses those contributions to fund the OCR partnership. From that point, every eligible player in the squad gets access to the full placement service — at a fraction of what private consulting would cost each family individually.
Academy Plan — What Families Pay
$1,680one-time / per family
$700/month × 12 months = $8,400/year ÷ 5 families. One payment, split across the squad — covering a full year of U.S. college recruitment.
Compare that to $3,000–$8,000+ that families typically pay a private college consultant — with no guarantee of outcome.
Elite Plan — What Families Pay
$1,560one-time / per family
$1,300/month × 12 months = $15,600/year ÷ 10 families. The more players in the squad, the lower each family’s share — and beyond ten, each additional player is just $150/month.
Includes co-branded marketing, priority coach access, and ICAP campus programme eligibility.
Want to put this to your parents?
We'll prepare the parent-facing materials, the cost breakdown, and everything your club needs to run the vote. You share it. They decide. If it passes, you're up and running.
"We have consistently recommended Oliver Charles to handle the pathways for our released players. Year after year, the lives of these young men have been changed through the opportunity of continuing their careers in the United States. It is a service we trust completely."

01 — U.S. Student Visa
Securing Your Student Visa
Understanding the U.S. student visa process is one of the most important steps in your journey. Oliver Charles guides every student through the application — and these downloadable guides give you a clear picture of what to expect at every stage.
The most common visa for international students is the F-1 Student Visa. Your institution issues the I-20 document required to apply. OCR coordinates this with your school on your behalf.
OCR Clients
We manage the full visa process for all placed students. Contact your OCR consultant or email us directly with any questions.
Note: These guides are for reference. OCR manages the full visa process for all enrolled clients.
02 — Health Insurance
International Student Insurance
Health insurance is mandatory for international students in the United States. Many universities include their own plan — but you may also purchase private coverage. Below are recommended providers to help you start your research.

NCAA
NCAA Eligibility Center

The NAIA offers a strong competitive environment across hundreds of member colleges. Register your eligibility here to be certified for NAIA competition — a popular pathway for many OCR athletes.
The National Junior College Athletic Association governs two-year colleges across the U.S. NJCAA programmes offer excellent pathways — often with strong scholarships — before transferring to a four-year institution.
If you are placed through Oliver Charles, we coordinate your eligibility registration, academic transcript submission, and certification status directly with your institution and the relevant governing body. These links are provided so you can also track your status independently.

About Daniel
Daniel knows the OCR journey from both sides. Seven years ago he was an OCR client himself, navigating the junior college and NCAA Division II pathway that took him through Whatcom Community College and Young Harris College — where he competed as a center back and earned his business degree.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Daniel pursued a Master's in Sports Management and joined the OCR team as a full-time employee in Fall 2024 on his OPT work visa — a living example of the very pathway OCR helps students build. He is now completing his master's degree while growing a strong client base from his home in New York.
Fluent in both English and Spanish, Daniel is an invaluable resource for Spanish-speaking students and families navigating the U.S. college system — bringing genuine empathy, lived experience, and professional expertise to every client relationship.

What Most Families Are Thinking
Moving Your Life to a New Country Is Not Small
A different country. A different education system. A different sporting environment. Visa applications, I-20 forms, NCAA eligibility clearance, scholarship negotiation, housing, flights, phone lines, time zones — the list of things to figure out seems endless when you are looking at it from the outside.
For your family, this may feel overwhelming. For us, it is Tuesday.
We have navigated this process hundreds of times. We know what goes wrong, when it tends to go wrong, and exactly how to prevent it. The families we work with don’t just get placed — they get managed, supported, and looked after from first conversation through to graduation day and beyond.
“Our student-athletes need someone they can call at 1am. Someone who knows their situation, cares about their outcome, and will pick up the phone. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, every day.”

Our Sports Management Arm
Built on a Decade of Doing This Properly
Oliver Charles Recruitment is powered by OCSM — Oliver Charles Sports Management — our sports management division that has been building and managing athlete journeys for over 15 years.
We are not a directory or a matching service. We are a full-service management operation — the same team that sources your scholarship also negotiates your transfer, coordinates your visa, liaises with your coaching staff, and remains actively involved from first call to graduation day.
That level of involvement is deliberate. We become part of your athlete’s life during some of the most significant years they will ever have — and we do not take that lightly.
The Opportunity
There Is Nowhere in the World Like a U.S. Campus
Balancing a full academic workload with a full athletic schedule — and feeling the reward of both when you ace a test on the same day you win a conference championship. Making lifelong friends. Competing in major cities on nationally televised games. The uniqueness of being a student and an athlete can only be found in the USA.
01
Compete at the Highest Level
From local conference games to nationally televised matchups — U.S. collegiate athletics is a genuinely elite proving ground for international talent.
02
Earn a World-Class Degree
Our athletes graduate not just with a qualification — but with four years of real-world experience on an American campus that opens doors globally.
03
Build Friendships for Life
The bonds formed through years of competing, studying, and living together in a new country are the kind that last a lifetime.
What Families Can Expect
Complete Management. Every Step.
Every family gets multiple touchpoints with our staff and multiple lines of communication. We are actively involved at every stage — before they fly, while they are on campus, and when they graduate.
Your Family Portal
A dedicated portal containing all administrative documentation — visas, I-20s, enrollment forms, travel documents — managed and updated weekly by our staff.

Monthly Updates
Monthly briefings covering rules updates, new opportunities, visa reminders, and anything else relevant to your athlete’s current stage.
The Details Matter
A U.S. phone line set up before they land. A check-in the night before their first game. Knowing when exams fall. The details nobody else handles — we do.
From First Call to Graduation
The Journey, Managed
01
Player Evaluation & School Selection
Honest assessment of your athlete — level, position, academic profile, ambitions. Then we identify the right institutions, at the right division, in the right location.
02
Scholarship Sourcing & Negotiation
We access 250–300 active scholarships at any given time and negotiate on your behalf — helping your family make the right decision, not just the first available one.
03
Visa Coordination & Preparation
From I-20 issuance through to your consulate interview, we coordinate every step of the F-1 visa process and prepare your athlete for exactly what to expect.
04
Arrival & Campus Integration
Flights, accommodation setup, phone lines, orientation support. Your athlete lands ready to compete, not still figuring out logistics.
05
Ongoing Campus Management
We remain actively involved throughout — monitoring academic progress, managing issues with coaches or administration, handling transfers if the time comes.
06
Graduation & Post-Study Visas
We guide athletes through OPT and STEM OPT extensions — up to three additional years of authorised work experience in the United States after graduation.

Five years on and Oliver Charles are still managing my son's journey. From the very first conversation, they kept their word on everything — the placement, the support, the check-ins. After being released from Bradford City, I did not know what my next step looked like. Oliver Charles placed me at Hofstra University, where I had an incredible experience both academically and on the field. That pathway led to me being drafted by the Vancouver Whitecaps into the MLS. They built a plan for me — ESL alongside their full-time residential programme — and guided me through every single step. Now I am graduating from NCAA Division I Oral Roberts University with my business degree and staying on for my MBA and a final season of college soccer. They managed my entire journey and I am very grateful for everything they have done.

Common Questions
Pricing FAQ
When does the $200/month start?
The retainer begins from the point of engagement — when we formally start working on your athlete’s placement. This covers everything from the initial evaluation right through to enrollment on campus.
What is the minimum commitment?
A minimum of 12 months. After that the retainer continues on a rolling monthly basis for as long as your athlete is actively managed by OCR — typically through to graduation and OPT visa guidance.
Does the price cover transfer management?
Yes. If your athlete needs to transfer — for athletic, academic, or personal reasons — we manage the entire process as part of the ongoing retainer at no additional cost.
Are there any fees on top of the $200?
The only additional costs are U.S. government fees — specifically the SEVIS fee and MRV visa application fee — which are mandated by U.S. immigration authorities and must be paid directly by the family. All OCR services are fully covered by the retainer.
What does ongoing management look like after placement?
The retainer continues to cover active management throughout your athlete’s time on campus — monthly updates, direct consultant access, coach and administration liaison, compliance monitoring, and any issues that arise. The $200 does not become a passive charge once they arrive; we remain actively involved.

Beyond Placement
Maximising Every Opportunity the Visa Allows
Getting your student into the right school is just the beginning. The U.S. student visa opens up a remarkable range of academic and professional opportunities that most families never fully take advantage of — because nobody guides them through it. We do.
01
Internships & CPT
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows F-1 students to work in paid internships directly related to their degree — often while still enrolled. We identify opportunities, confirm eligibility, and manage the authorisation process with your institution.
02
Dual Majors & Academic Planning
U.S. universities offer significant flexibility in degree construction. We work with your student to identify dual major or minor combinations that strengthen their career prospects — without extending their visa timeline unnecessarily.
03
OPT & STEM OPT Extensions
Optional Practical Training (OPT) grants up to 12 months of U.S. work authorisation after graduation. Students in STEM fields can extend this to 3 years. We manage the entire application process and timeline so not a day of authorised work time is lost.
04
Visa Rule Updates & Compliance
U.S. immigration rules change. What was permissible last semester may not be this semester. We monitor SEVIS policy, USCIS guidance, and institutional compliance requirements — and brief families monthly so they are never caught off guard.
05
On-Campus Employment
F-1 students are permitted to work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during term. We help students identify and secure appropriate roles that build their resume without jeopardising their visa status or academic performance.
06
Ongoing Campus Support
Academic issues, administrative disputes, housing problems, health insurance questions — if something comes up on campus, your student has a consultant to call. We liaise directly with institutions on your behalf so your student can focus on their studies.
Who This Is For
International Students Who Want to Do This Right
High School Students
Applying directly from international high school into U.S. undergraduate programmes. We manage the shortlist, applications, scholarship sourcing, and full visa process — giving your student the best possible start.
University Transfer Students
Already in the U.S. system and looking to transfer to a better-fitting institution? We manage the process, maintain your visa status, and ensure academic credits transfer cleanly.
Graduate & Master’s Applicants
Pursuing a U.S. Master’s or graduate qualification — particularly STEM programmes that qualify for the 3-year OPT extension. We identify the right programmes, manage the application, and maximise your post-graduation work opportunities.
Common Questions
Pricing FAQ
Can I use this service if my student is already in the U.S.?
Absolutely. Whether your student is mid-degree, considering a transfer, approaching graduation and planning OPT, or navigating an academic or administrative issue on campus — we can engage at any stage of the journey.

A Message from the Founder
Welcome to Oliver Charles
Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. If you’re reading this, it’s because you’re exploring one of the most exciting opportunities available to young people around the world — the chance to study and compete in the United States.
I started Oliver Charles Sports Management in 2015 as part of my final MBA project. As a former international student-athlete myself, I had already experienced firsthand what this journey could offer: world-class facilities, high-level competition, the pursuit of a degree from an American university, the chance to travel across the country, gain real work experience, and build friendships that last a lifetime. It was, without exaggeration, life-changing.
When I finished that project, I couldn’t walk away. I knew there were talented, ambitious young athletes all over the world who deserved the same opportunity I had — they just needed someone to guide them through it. That’s what we do. That’s what we’ve been doing for a decade.
“This document is designed to give you and your family a clear understanding of how the American college system works, how athletics and academics come together, how scholarships can reduce costs, and how we support you through every step of the process — from your first conversation with us, all the way to graduation and beyond.”
Oliver Templeton · Founder & CEO
Chapter One
The Opportunity at a Glance
The United States is the world’s number one destination for international students. This is not a niche opportunity — this is a well-established, well-funded system, and with the right guidance, it is absolutely accessible to you.

Chapter Two
The American Academic System
A standard undergraduate degree takes four years to complete. The academic year is divided into two semesters: the Fall Semester (late August through mid-December) and the Spring Semester (mid-January through May). Students typically take five classes per semester — approximately 40 classes to reach graduation.
You progress through four academic levels: Freshman (Year 1), Sophomore (Year 2), Junior (Year 3), and Senior (Year 4). American colleges offer degrees across virtually every subject you can imagine — from business and engineering to the arts, sciences, and everything in between.
Important for international students: If you’ve completed advanced coursework in your home country, we can often secure academic credit at your U.S. institution. This can accelerate your undergraduate degree and open the door to pursuing a master’s degree.
Chapter Three
Your Student Visa & Work Authorization
Every international student enters the U.S. on an F-1 Student Visa, which remains valid for the duration of your studies. If you continue your education beyond an undergraduate degree, your visa can be extended accordingly.
One of the most valuable benefits of studying in the U.S. is the work authorization available after graduation. Upon completing each level of degree, you are eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows you to work in the U.S. in a field related to your studies.
STEM Advantage
For students who earn a degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics), work authorization can be extended up to three years after graduation — a significant pathway into the U.S. workforce.
Chapter Four
The College Athletics Structure
College sports in the U.S. operate within a structured system of leagues and divisions. Each level offers a different combination of competition intensity, scholarship availability, and academic environment.
NCAA
Division I, II & III
Division I represents the highest level of athletic competition and the largest scholarship budgets. Division II offers strong competition with a balance between athletics and academics. Division III provides excellent academic financial aid and a more balanced lifestyle.
NAIA
Competitive & Scholarship-Rich
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics offers competitive environments and generous scholarship opportunities across hundreds of member institutions — a popular pathway for many international athletes.
NJCAA
Two-Year Pathway
The National Junior College Athletic Association governs two-year programmes. NJCAA provides a pathway that can lead to a transfer into a four-year programme — often with strong scholarships and a chance to develop before moving up.
Chapter Five
Pathways: There Is No One-Size-Fits-All
Every student-athlete is different — in their academic background, their level of play, their degree interests, their budget, and their geographical preferences. That’s why we approach every placement individually.
Some students begin at a four-year college and remain there for all four years of their degree. Others start at a two-year college with the intention of transferring after two years, which can open up stronger options for their final two years while keeping total costs lower.
Both routes lead to the same result: a completed degree and a full collegiate experience. We work with each student and their family to identify the right path — one that balances academics, athletics, finances, and personal goals.
“I was released by Gillingham and didn’t know what was next. Oliver got me the best part of a full scholarship to Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida — the campus was literally on a beach. I spent four years playing soccer every day, earning my degree in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Then we transferred to Oral Roberts to compete in one of the toughest D1 conferences in the country. I’m now working on my OPT — none of it would have happened without OCSM.”
Tommy Lamb · Eckerd College & Oral Roberts University
Chapter Six
Cost of Attendance & Scholarships
The total cost of attendance is made up of several components: tuition and fees, housing, and meals. General spending money and travel expenses are separate but sometimes included in the total figure provided by the college.
Scholarships are applied to reduce that total. These can come from multiple sources: academic scholarships (based on grades and test scores), housing waivers, meal plan scholarships, and athletic scholarships (from the coach’s budget). Some athletes receive partial support; others have their entire cost covered.
Chapter Seven
The Recruiting Timeline
Coaches typically recruit 12 months or more in advance of the upcoming season. The earlier you begin the process, the more options you will have.
01
We Secure Options
We communicate directly with coaches, presenting highlight footage, academic records, and personal profiles to secure multiple placement options.
02
Introductions & Offers
When a coach expresses serious interest, we facilitate introductions. We then compile and present final scholarship offers to your family.
03
Roadmap to Graduation
We put a long-term plan in place — a roadmap to graduation tailored specifically to you — and we adjust it as needed along the way.
Chapter Eight
From Commitment to Campus
Once a student commits to a college, we guide the family through the full visa process — ensuring all documentation is in order and the student is fully prepared for their visa interview.
From there, we help with every detail of arrival preparation: flight logistics and airport pickups, dorm room selection and roommate assignments, meal plan selection, and essential setup items such as health insurance, a U.S. phone number, and banking. We work alongside the student’s academic advisor to select the right classes, ensure credit is applied for prior coursework, and monitor grades throughout each semester.
Chapter Nine
Ongoing Support
Our relationship with our student-athletes doesn’t end at drop-off. We are a long-term partner in their journey.
Return-Home Calendars
We help coordinate travel during academic breaks so families always know what to expect.
Transfer Options
If a change of school would benefit your development, we manage the entire transfer process.
Scholarship Growth
As you prove yourself on the field and in the classroom, we pursue increased scholarship opportunities.
Visa Monitoring
We monitor any visa changes or policy updates that could affect your status throughout your studies.
Summer Experience
Summer team options and work experience placements, plus internal agency internships for selected athletes.
Grade Monitoring
If a student is struggling in a class, we act early — well before it can negatively affect their GPA.
“Shippensburg might not be the place you’d pick off a map, but it became home. I made friends for life there, competed at a high level, and was proud to call it mine for four years. After graduating, OCSM helped me stay on and earn my master’s in Sport Management — and now I’m working as a junior agent within the agency, using everything I learned. The whole journey started with one conversation.”
Seth Crabbe · Shippensburg University
Chapter Ten
How We Work & Next Steps
We begin with a consultation — a chance for us to meet you and your family, and for you to learn more about us as an agency, ask any questions, and determine if this is the right path for you.
Our service is structured as a fixed monthly retainer of $200 USD. The initial commitment is 12 months, after which the retainer continues on a rolling month-to-month basis. There is no end date by design — our expectation is that we are with you for the entire journey, from your first conversation with a coach all the way through graduation and beyond, for as long as you need us. We are your team throughout your time in the U.S., and most of our families stay with us for the duration.
We pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our families and the players we represent. This is not a transaction — it is a partnership.
If a client chooses to end their monthly retainer and later wishes to re-engage our support, they must either make up the missed months or pay a $1,000 re-engagement fee, whichever is less. This ensures we can dedicate the time and resources needed to get back up to speed on their case and continue delivering the level of service our families expect.
Monthly Retainer
$200 / month
12-month initial commitment. Rolling month-to-month thereafter — no end date.
